Caló des Mort is one of the most famous beaches of Formentera. Very small and somewhat hidden, but that does not discourage people from visiting it.

The name Caló des Mort is on the lips of many of those who come to Formentera and this makes it one of the busiest places on the island.

Description of Es Caló des Mort

Es Caló des Mort is a tiny beach just 20 meters long by 5 meters wide, located a few meters below the sandstone cliffs typical of this area of the island.

Fame and renown have appropriated this tiny little cove of Formentera, hidden in an area of rocks and low cliffs in the easternmost part of the coast of Migjorn.

Es Caló des Mort has been surrounded by fables of pirates and hidden treasures that, together with the beauty of the tiny corner in which it is located, have only made the legend around this small bay bigger.

Limited space

There is so little space and so many bathers that people who arrive at Es Caló des Mort at rush hour leave without bathing, only with a few photographs and comments about the large number of people there.

The sandy area can accommodate a maximum of 15 to 20 people, plus those on the cliffs, in the beach huts, on top of the rocks and wherever there is space. If you want to find space, arrive well in advance.

Access to es Caló des Mort

The access to Es Caló des Mort must be done on foot. However, you have two options and you can approach by motorcycle to the forest of pines and sapines that is at the top.

Access from Es Copinar beach

The best access to Es Caló des Mort is from the beach of Es Copinar, walking about 10 or 15 minutes. This is the most beautiful, comfortable and the most recommended trail (it is the one you see in the photo gallery). The special thing about this trail is that the path goes over the cliff parallel to the sea, offering magnificent views of the entire coast of Migjorn.

Access from Hotel Riu

You must pass in front of the Hotel Riu la Mola and when you have left it behind, enter through an unmarked dirt road. There you will find a small improvised parking where you can leave the bike and then go down a slippery area of dirt and sand to just Es Caló des Mort.
