Quick summary of the restrictions

So you can quickly know where traffic is restricted in Formentera and if you need to pay to access certain areas, here’s the quick information:

Validity of restrictions: from May 15 to October 15

Detailed traffic regulation in Formentera

From May 15, the regulation to access the Natural Park and Cap de Barbaria is already in force. This has been communicated by the Consell de Formentera, which has decided to implement these measures to regulate traffic in various areas of the island.

Regulation of Illetas and Cap de Barbaria

The traffic regulation through a fee collection aims to finance the maintenance of the Ses Salines Natural Park. In the case of Cap de Barbaria, the goal is to protect the area where iconic Formentera attractions such as the Cap de Barbaria Lighthouse and the Cova Foradada are located.

For Illetas and surrounding areas, the only people exempt from paying to enjoy these idyllic areas are the residents of Formentera island. Conversely, any tourist or visitor wishing to access will need to pay a fee that varies depending on the season.

Access fees to the Illetas area

The fees to access the natural park by vehicle in 2024 are as follows:

  • From May 15 to June 15, cars will pay 4 euros and motorcycles 2 euros
  • From June 16 to July 15, cars will pay 5 euros and motorcycles 3 euros
  • From July 16 to August 31, cars will pay 6 euros and motorcycles 4 euros
  • From September 1 to September 15, cars will pay 5 euros and motorcycles 3 euros
  • From September 16 to September 30, cars will pay 4 euros and motorcycles 2 euros

People accessing with a hybrid vehicle will only need to pay half the fee, while those entering on foot, by bicycle, or people with reduced mobility will be exempt from the fee.

Parking regulation in Es Caló des Mort and Es Ram

Traffic limitations not only affect the Ses Salines Natural Park area but also two coves in Formentera that have virtually no parking space: Es Caló des Mort and Es Ram.

In these two places, there is no fee to be paid; the regulation expressly prohibits parking on those narrow access roads to facilitate the passage of emergency vehicles. A controller will inform visitors, and vehicles can only access to drop off passengers.

Traffic limitation on two streets in Es Pujols

Es Pujols, being the busiest urban area in Formentera, will also have 2 traffic-limited zones: Miramar Avenue and Punta Prima Street. These two streets will be 100% pedestrian and closed to traffic every day from 20:00 to 06:00.

After 2 years living and working in Formentera, I wanted to put all the knowledge I had about the island into a multi-language online directory that would offer as much information as possible to anyone interested in visiting the island. I still visit the island frequently to visit friends, enjoy the magnificent surroundings and find out first hand what's new in terms of accommodation and businesses to keep the website up to date.
