Location

Ses Platjetes beach, in Es Caló

Ses Platjetes, as its name indicates (little beaches) are three small beaches in Es Caló, Formentera.

These beaches are very crowded, especially in August.

Description of Ses Platjetes beach

To the west of the village of Es Caló, a few meters before reaching it on the road that leads to the Mola, there are 3 small and beautiful beaches facing north.

They are hidden on the other side of the road, behind a line of coastal dunes thickly populated by vegetation. It is accessed by wooden walkways that cross the dunes without altering the flora of the place, or on foot from the town of Es Caló. The environment has an extraordinary beauty and is very popular with tourists.

The number of bathers can be measured by the number of motorcycles parked on the side of the road at the entrance of Es Caló, but you can be sure that if you go there during the months of July and August it will be difficult to find a place to put your towel.

When the tourist crowiding is very high there are even bathers who place their towel on the rocks: in front of the small pier of the village, on the sides of the sandy areas and in any horizontal and moderately comfortable place.

Three small beaches in one place

The name Ses Platjetes means little beaches in Balearic Catalan. This denomination could not be more accurate, since Ses Platjetes are just that, three small bays of sand and rock, between 70 and 40 meters long. The total extension of the sandy area in its farthest part (near the dunes) is approximately 350 meters, although several of these meters, at the water line, are rocky areas.

Presence of rocks and reefs

The three bays of Ses Platjetes are located in a rocky area that the sand from the sea has partially covered. Therefore, you can be sure that, apart from in some very specific areas, you will find rocks to get in and out of the water.

We recommend that if you do not feel safe, wear crab sandals or move with caution: the rocks are not sharp but are covered by seaweed and sea plants, so they are slippery.

Perfect for snorkeling

If you have a mask you will enjoy snorkeling and exploring the nooks and crannies that the reef creates underwater. The smallest of the three beaches is the central one, where the rocks are at surface level. The two end beaches are more covered by sand, although the reefs are equally present and you will be able to enjoy snorkeling as well.
