Location

Es Mal Pas beach (Migjorn beach)

Es Mal Pas is the westernmost area of Migjorn beach. It is also one of the least crowded areas of Formentera. If you want tranquility this is your place.

Description of Es Mal Pas

The beach area known as Es Mal Pas is the westernmost area of the coast of Migjorn. It is a totally natural environment and always free of crowds.

The reason why people do not go to this beach is that access by public transport is practically impossible, there are almost no indications and many meters of unpaved roads must be traveled, with crossings without signposts and with some sections in poor condition.

The loneliest beach in Formentera

The whole area of Es Mal Pas is undisturbed, apart from some wooden fences, a couple of constructions to shelter boats and two beach bars.

It is usual that in this area posidonia accumulates in large quantities, mixes with the sand or remains floating in the first meters of water closest to the shore. There are no services of any kind in this part of Migjorn, apart from a few beach bars – Restaurante Pelayo, Sa Platjeta and Restaurante Sol y Luna – where you can go to refresh yourself or eat something if you don’t have anything with you. Many of the bathers who come to this area are nudists, since the beach is sheltered from prying eyes, is very lonely and is never crowded. If you get to this area of Formentera the only thing you will hear is the wind and the waves.

Hard-to-find accesses

The westernmost access does not make things easy for low cars. In addition, the parking area can barely accommodate one or two cars and maneuvering to get out is not easy. If you want to get to this area, we recommend that you do it by motorcycle or enter the beach through the Chiringuito Pelayo.

West access

The westernmost access is through a narrow forest track that can be reached by following the directions to the Miguel Torres Apartments (see photo gallery). It can be reached from the old road from La Mola or directly from Sant Francesc, from the road known as d’Es Mal Pas. It is recommended to have a motorcycle or bicycle, since the bus does not reach this area and the parking lot for cars is tiny, barely one or two can fit. A car could find itself closed and unable to maneuver, having to back up the track, or stranded on the sand if it decides to maneuver near the beach.

East Access

Access can also be made through the Pelayo Restaurant, a beach bar with a very hippie ambience, that doesn’t want to pretend to be a fancy place, and built in the center of a pine forest of large and majestic trees.

The Pelayo is located in a forest of pine and juniper trees, which means that if you are on the beach you will not see the entrance to the beach bar until you find yourself in front of it.

You can also follow the road des Pi des Català, until in front of the restaurant Sol y Luna, where you will find a fairly large parking lot and almost never busy.
