The limitation of vehicle circulation for this summer of 2021 is proposed from June 24 to September 7. This regulation period is necessary due to excessive overcrowding of vehicles in Formentera.
What is the limitation?
The regulation of the Formentera.eco project consists of limiting vehicle traffic, which has become one of the biggest threats to Formentera. For this reason, this project was devised through the Consell of the mobility area a few seasons ago.
The vehicles that may be in circulation will be a maximum of 20,591. They are broken down into the following categories:
- Visitor cars
- Visitor motorcycles
- Resident cars in Ibiza
- Motorcycles of residents in Ibiza
- Rental cars
- Rental motorcycles
- Resident vehicles and other vehicles.
In the future, this regulation will be extended to the maritime field, both in the regulation of anchoring in what corresponds to the Formentera coastline, as well as the frequency of regular lines.
How will the process be carried out to accredit a vehicle that wants to circulate in Formentera?
The vehicle accreditation process will be regulated through the official Formentera.eco website, which is very easy, agile and secure.
The rates stipulated for visitors will be:
- For car €1.00/day, the minimum amount being €5.00;
- In the case of motorcycles €0.50/day, the minimum amount being €2.5.
Accreditation will be free for residents of Formentera, residents of the rest of the Balearic Islands, and electric vehicles, and will also be processed online.
Maritime regulation
In the case of shipping companies that transport vehicles, they are informing about this regulation, and that the ticket purchase processing is through the web. Thus, it is guaranteed that the information reaches all people who wish to visit Formentera.
Also, the 43 companies that are authorized to rent vehicles are informed that it is an essential requirement to process their accreditations through the Formentera.eco website.
Vehicles that circulate without authorization through Formentera will be fined according to the law for at least 1,000 euros. So they are called upon to comply with current regulations.
Where are the controls?
The island’s vehicle access and exit controls are arranged in La Savina, the system also has license plate reading cameras, the entire system as a whole has been improved and relocated. A control point will also be maintained through road signs.
