Also, this regulation seeks to guarantee a satisfactory experience for visitors, avoiding access problems, both in the Parc Natural de las Salinas de Ibiza y Formentera and in the Cap de Barbaria area.

What does the regulation of access to Illetas and Barbaria consist of?

The regulation of access to Illetas and the Far de Barbaria lighthouse consists of implementing an access control device, to reduce the mobility of vehicles in general, motorcycles, motor cars, electric cars and hybrid vehicles, to avoid excessive traffic overcrowding in areas protected. This action has been carried out for several seasons now.

The period stipulated for said regulation began on June 1 and will extend until September 30 of this year. In the case of motor vehicles in Cap de Barbaria, it starts the same on June 1 but until October 15, 2021.

In the case of Illetas, the parking lots will have a maximum authorized capacity of 1,060 motorcycles and 342 cars.

It is noteworthy that at Cap de Barbaria there is a barrier where motor cars already have access restricted. This parking lot has a capacity for 60 cars and 100 motorcycles.

What is stipulated by the authorities is that the hours where there is the greatest influx of visitors is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., but the restrictions only operate during the day (in the case of Illetas). In the case of Cap de Barbaria the barrier is always lowered and there is no guard, which means that access is prohibited 24 hours a day.

The rates stipulated for non-residents, if they want to access the Salinas Natural Park, are the following:

  • €3 per motorcycle and €5 per car until July 16
  • From July 16 to August 31 it will be €4 per motorcycle and €6 per car
  • For the first half of September you must pay €3 per motorcycle and €5 per car
  • And in the second half of this month, €2 per motorcycle and €4 per car.

For residents of the island, access to the park will be free as always. Electric vehicles, pedestrians, bicycles and people with reduced mobility will also have free access. In the case of hybrid vehicles they will pay 50% of the rate.

There will always be an informant/guardian next to the barrier who will allow access to people with reduced mobility.

After 2 years living and working in Formentera, I wanted to put all the knowledge I had about the island into a multi-language online directory that would offer as much information as possible to anyone interested in visiting the island. I still visit the island frequently to visit friends, enjoy the magnificent surroundings and find out first hand what's new in terms of accommodation and businesses to keep the website up to date.
